We Build Sheds in all weather

Question about building in the rain:

I live in the Seattle Area. It’s the raining season here right now. We need to build a wood shed (probably 10×12′, wood shed). Our yard is not level and soil has mud in it. Is it okay that we build a shed in between rains? or  when it is actively raining?

Answer:

It is perfectly fine to build in the rain, the wood inside the shed will dry within 24-48 hours with just a fan, even quicker if a dry heat source is used. The biggest issue you might have is with a sheet product called OSB, many builders choose OSB over plywood because it is more affordable, OSB is not good for high moisture area use, it can swell, like a sponge, to twice its size if it gets too wet!

At I Build Sheds we use Plywood floors and roof sheets, we have found that Plywood out performs OSB board, especially in rainy and wet conditions, and dries quicker too!

As long as the ground does not have standing water where your shed will be built it will be ok, even in muddy conditions, the building may settle but is easily re-levelled with a simple car jack and additional blocks. Gravel can be spread under and around the area where your shed will be built and promotes adequate drainage of water away from your building, it can also be used to help level the area giving your new shed a lot more longevity.
